My friend likes me, how do I handle it?

My friend who I've known since 4th grade told me he likes me. Problem is I don't swing that way and yeah I told him that already. He seems really hurt though. He said it was really hard to tell me which is weird cause I wasn't gonna go all Fred Phelps on him or anything. But I'm really bad at being empathetic, so I was hoping you all could tell me what I'm supposed to do in this situation.
